“My new album ‘I Wanted to Be Tough’ is out.
It’s a record about childhood, friendship, and love.
It’s an album of true and false memories, of characters from both good and evil, of places — whether they are fields of daisies or bleak industrial zones.
When it comes to forms of expression, I believe that what we should strive for is change.
In this record, I sought a transformation, especially in the lyrics, trying not to lift my feet too far off the ground.
I tried to sing clearly and directly about people.
‘I Wanted to Be Tough’ was born crawling along sidewalks, hiding in closets or under table legs, spinning among dirty laundry in washing machines, hanging from clotheslines by my hair, searching for memories that weren’t mine in other people’s hats, seeking new horizons in the shoes of tall people.
After about two years, I found nine different songs and convinced them to go live together in the same building.
That’s how the album was born.”
